With Donald Trump, who has threatened revenge against his perceived enemies, set to begin his second term in a matter of months, Saturday Night Live‘s cast members had self-preservation in mind, insisting that they have always had his back.

“We have been with you all along,” Kenan Thompson said, with Marcello Hernandez adding that everyone on stage voted for him as well. Heidi Gardner elaborated that she did so “50 times in Pennsylvania.”

Some cast members, though, were thrown under the bus.

“Mr. Trump, your honor,” Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost said. “We know that you say controversial things sometimes, but really you’re just speaking the truth, and I hate how the lamestream media, Michael Che, tries to spin it to try to make you look foolish.”

“And it’s C-H-E. Che,” Jost clarified.

After others threw in some “Heil Trump”s, Sarah Sherman announced a new direction for Trump’s impression: “hot, jacked Trump.”

Trump (James Austin Johnson), wearing a muscle suit, tank top, and red headband, proudly declared, “From now on, we’re going to do very flattering portrayal of Trump, because he’s, frankly, my hero.”

“And he’s going to make an incredible president, and eventually, king. We love you, buddy!” he added, blowing a kiss to the screen, then subtly rolling his eyes while leaving the stage.

A dopey Elon Musk (Dana Carvey) then jumped in: “But seriously–I run the country now.”
