Bill Murray shouted out his Moonrise Kingdom co-star Bruce Willis on Monday, after Murray was asked about some of his favorite films to date.

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Murray was asked by host Andy Cohen to rank four of the Wes Anderson films that he has appeared in. The actor — who has starred in nine Anderson flicks — began by calling Grand Budapest Hotel “incredible,” before admitting that 2004’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou “was the most challenging, hard job I ever had. It almost cost me my life — and my personal life,” without elaborating further.

Asked about Moonrise Kingdom, Murray called it “a really beautiful, lovely film.” “I got to work with and have a wonderful time with Bruce Willis,” Murray said when recalling his favorite memory, noting that the sentiment was especially relevant given the Die Hard star’s alphasia diagnosis and his recent birthday. (Willis turned 70 on March 19). “Bruce Willis is a good guy. A good fucking guy.”

Murray shared a particularly poignant story about Willis, noting that the then-struggling actor worked as an NBC page during Murray’s time at Saturday Night Live. “His job was to come and go to the dressing rooms and refill the M&Ms and pretzels in the actor’s rooms,” Murray said. “And I remember when I met him after he was already a successful guy, he said, ‘You and Gilda [Radnor] were nice to me.’

Murray said the interaction made him realize that, “I’m good with this guy,” adding that Willis “was a good friend and always understood [me].” After Moonrise Kingdom, the two would reunite on the set of Rock The Kasbah in 2015.

Murray didn’t end up actually ranking any of his films during his “Plead the Fifth” segment on WWHL but he did have plenty of other things to say during his appearance on the Bravo talk show. The actor said he preferred the recent SNL50 anniversary special over the show’s 40th anniversary episode, in large part because of the concert that accompanied last month’s event. Murray also responded to longstanding rumors of rampant drug use among the early SNL cast, calling it a “joke” that people would think it was out of control.

“People were able to create a live, 90-minute television show every week just high and completely out of of control? Real likely,” he said sarcastically.

“People took drugs,” Murray confirmed — slipping in that “I hear that there are even people today who [ are doing it]” — but the actor says the group never let it get in the way of “letting down their friends, their fellows and all these professionals, the group of incredible professionals that made this show.”

“You had an obligation to people and people respected that,” he stressed. “Real professionals do that.”

“Drugs or alcohol, if it happened, it was after work,” Murray said. “Especially young people like we were, after work it was like, ‘God, we had to let go.’ You just had this crazy energy that you had to move.”

Murray is currently promoting his new film, The Friend, co-starring Naomi Watts. You can see more from his WWHL appearance below:
