Sean Gamble, CEO of major theater chain Cinemark, earned $9.8 million in overall pay in 2024, the company said in a securities filing on Wednesday.

His compensation package came as Cinemark, the third-largest theater circuit in the U.S. behind AMC Theatres and Regal Entertainment Group, continues to recover at the box office coming out of the pandemic.

Gamble, who became president and CEO of the cinema chain in January 2022, made $8.8 million in overall pay in 2023, and $5.95 million in the year-earlier period.

The big movers for Gamble’s total pay continue to come from stock awards and a non-equity incentive plan. In 2024, Gamble received a base salary of $936,000, up from a base salary of $900,000 in 2023 and $825,000 in 2022.

Last year, Gamble received $5.84 million in stock awards, up from $5.4 million in 2023, while pulling in another $2.99 million in non-equity incentive plan compensation in 2024, against a year-earlier $2.44 million.

The latest pay package for Gamble comes as Cinemark is navigating efforts by the film industry to return to pre-COVID levels of releases. Getting there will be helped by new players like Amazon MGM Studios, as well as independent studios like A24 and Neon, adding more to the overall Hollywood movie pipeline.

The SEC filing also revealed that Melissa Thomas, Cinemark CFO, received overall pay of $2.94 million in 2024, compared to $2.69 million in total pay for 2023 and a $2.39 million overall compensation package in 2022.
