Coldplay Featured on New Version of League of Legends ‘Arcane’ Song “Ma Meilleure Ennemie” (Exclusive)
Coldplay have jumped on for a new version of Stromae and Pomme’s fan-favorite Arcane song “Ma Meilleure Ennemie,” the most notable add-in for an extended version of the show’s season two soundtrack that was released on Friday through Riot Games and Virgin Music Group.
The feature adds to an already star-studded soundtrack for the second season of Netflix’s animated show inspired by the popular video game League of Legends, with Twenty One Pilots, Stray Kids, King Princess and D4vd, among others, contributing as well. But “Ma Meilleure Ennemie,” French for My Best Enemy, became one of season two’s biggest songs, with 335 million Spotify streams to date.
That’s second only to JID and Imagine Dragons’ quadruple-platinum hit “Enemy,” the show’s theme and the lead single to Arcane’s season one soundtrack. Riot Games said the season two soundtrack has amassed over 1.5 billion streams overall since it was released last November. The new version of “Ma Meilleure Ennemie” also features vocals from Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna.
“We love Stromae and Pomme and we love the beautiful song that they wrote for Ekko and Powder,” Coldplay said in a statement. “It’s an honor to contribute to this new version and to the Arcane and League of Legends universe.”
As Stromae said in a statement: “Together with Pomme & Riot Games, we wanted to give the fans a little extra gift by inviting an artist we admire. Coldplay has been a big inspiration for me for a long time, so it immediately felt like the right choice. When I asked them to join the project, they said yes without hesitation. I’m beyond happy about this collaboration, and the result is something really special.”
Aside from the new Coldplay feature, the extended season two soundtrack also includes eight more added tracks from the original, including a demo version of King Princess’s “Fantastic,” a remix to Stray Kids, Young Miko and Tom Morello’s “Come Play” by Kordhell, and a Bloodpop remix of Ashnikko’s “Paint the Town Blue.”
“The incredible response our players had to ‘Ma Meilleure Ennemie’ inspired us to create a new version to celebrate the release of Arcane season two’s extended original soundtrack,” Maria Egan, Riot Games’ global head of music, said in a statement. “The song has been a global phenomenon since the release of the show and Coldplay’s version of the track brings it to new heights with the addition of Chris Martin’s brilliant English verse. Coldplay and Stromae have wanted to make music together for a long time, and this collaboration felt like a completely organic way to add a new dimension to this iconic song.”
