Demi Moore Says ‘I Didn’t Feel Gutted’ by Losing the Oscar: ‘I Leaned Over to My Manager and Whispered’ Mikey Madison Would Win
Demi Moore said in a new interview with Time magazine that she was not devastated when she lost the Oscar for best actress to “Anora’s” Mikey Madison. In fact, Moore had such a strong gut feeling that Madison would prevail, she told her manager as much when the Oscars cut to commercial right before the best actress category was announced.
“I leaned over and whispered to my manager, ‘I think it’s going to Mikey,’” Moore said. “I don’t know why I knew, but I did. I was so centered and calm. I didn’t feel gutted. I didn’t feel any of those kinds of things. I just trusted, and am in trust of, whatever is going to unfold.”
Perhaps Moore knew Madison would win because “Anora” was already on a hot Oscars streak by the time the best actress category was presented. “Anora” director Sean Baker had already picked up trophies for best editing, original screenplay and director. The Academy was clearly in love with “Anora,” which only became more obvious when Madison won best actress and the film took home the best picture prize.
Moore was viewed as an Oscar frontrunner for “The Substance” after winning best lead actress prizes at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards and SAG Awards. But Madison was always viewed as a major contender as well after winning at the BAFTAs. Moore took to Instagram the day after the Academy Awards and gave Madison a heartfelt shoutout.
“As this awards season comes to a close, I’m so overwhelmed with gratitude for this journey,” Moore wrote. “It’s been the ride of a lifetime and we’re just getting started! So grateful for my team, my fellow nominees, and everyone who has made this experience so full of joy and light… And a huge congratulations to Mikey Madison — can’t wait to see what you do next.”
Hours after the Oscars, Moore posted a photograph of herself eating fast food and celebrating the end of her awards season with her daughters. Scout LaRue Willis posted on her Instagram story: “So beyond proud, this woman is nothing but integrity, bright beaming light and love! What Grace I’ve never been more proud to be her daughter.”
Moore is currently filming the second season of her hit Paramount+ drama series “Landman.” She will next be seen on the big screen alongside Keke Palmer and LaKeith Stanfield in Boots Riley’s “I Love Boosters.”
