It was raining underwear during Charli xcx‘s wild Grammys performance of “Von dutch” and “Guess.”

The “Brat” pop star began her performance from outside Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena and then strutted in, flanked by fellow it girls Grabbriette and Alex Consani and dozens of dancers dressed in Bushwick club rat attire.

When she made it to the stage, she jumped from “Von dutch” to “Guess,” with Billie Eilish singing along from her seat. The Dare, who produced the raunchy dance track, was also onstage, making out with a dancer in a U.K. flag skirt.

Emulating the music video for “Guess,” Charli danced as hundreds of pairs of panties and underwear rained down from above. For those worried about waste, a message flashed on the screen that read: “All unworn undergarments will be donated to survivors of domestic violence through I Support the Girls.”

Charli won three Grammys on Sunday night, her first prizes from the Recording Academy — for best dance pop recording (“Von dutch”), best dance/electronic album (“Brat”) and best recording package (“Brat”). Her 2024 album received eight nominations overall, including album of the year and best pop solo performance for “Apple.” Her other nominations are best pop duo/group performance for “Guess” with Billie Eilish, best music video for “360” and record of the year for “360.” Prior to this year, the queen of “Brat Summer” had two Grammy nominations at the 57th awards for being featured on the Iggy Azalea song “Fancy.”

Charli has been well-known in pop both for her own music and her contributions to various hit songs. She is credited as a writer on “I Love It” and “Señorita.” She has also been on movie soundtracks, including “The Fault in Our Stars” with “Boom Clap,” “Bodies Bodies Bodies” with “Hot Girl” and “Barbie” with “Speed Drive.”

Her previous albums include “Crash” (2022) and “how i’m feeling now” (2020). But it wasn’t until “Brat” and its ubiquitous lime green cover that she fully emerged into the mainstream. “Brat” has been her biggest commercial success, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and spawning countless social media memes.

The “Brat Summer” phenomenon included a “Girl, so confusing” remix featuring Lorde, a viral “Apple” dance choreographed by content creator Kelley Heyer and Charli’s tweet stating “Kamala is brat.” In 2024, Charli also helmed the Sweat tour with Troye Sivan, released a remix album and appeared on “Saturday Night Live” as both host and musical guest.
