Friends of Sally Kirkland Start GoFundMe for Veteran Actor Facing Health Crisis While Fighting Life-Threatening Illnesses
Friends of Sally Kirkland organized a GoFundMe in the name of the actress, hoping to raise $65,000 to help pay for her latest medical needs. The Academy Award-nominated performer dealt with four fractures to her neck, wrist, and hip in the past year, according to the GoFundMe page. While she was recovering from these injuries, she developed two “life-threatening infections,” which she is currently attempting to find the right treatment for.
Kirkland starred in the 1988 movie “Anna,” for which she was nominated for the best actress Oscar and won the Best Actress Golden Globe Award. With a career starting in the 1960s, she participated in more than 300 projects.
The GoFundMe explains that Kirkland lost the money she generated from “Anna” and her established investments due to the 2007-2008 financial crisis.
It also explains the actress’s current lack of insurance coverage for her disease: “In 2021, SAG-AFTRA canceled the supplement insurance for members over the age of 65 that served as members’ Medigap coverage.” This has left the veteran at a crossroads dealing with this health complication.
“This past year Sally fractured her four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip. While recovering she developed two separate life-threatening infections. The combination of these injuries and infections have required extensive hospitalizations and rehab beyond the 100 days insurance will cover,” further states the GoFundMe.
The fundraising effort was organized by her friends Paige Dylan, Coty Galloway and Mel England with “gratitude, hope and love.” They describe their friend as “a maternal figure offering encouragement, wisdom and love when it was needed most. For those who know Sally personally, she has been a limitless source of generosity, kindness and unwavering spirit.”
