Jay Leno Is ‘All Black and Blue’ After Falling Down Hill
The former late-night talk show host also suffered face burns in 2022 after a gas fire
Jay Leno suffered severe injuries to his face and body after falling down a 60-foot hill in Pennsylvania over the weekend. The comedian was leaving his Hampton Inn hotel room Nov. 16 for dinner, when he took a plunge down a hillside, leaving him “all black and blue,” he told Inside Edition Tuesday.
Leno, who was looking for a shortcut to a local restaurant, said he underestimated the height of the hill and suffered a broken wrist, a swollen eye — which he covered with an eye patch — and lost a fingernail.
His slip marks the latest accident by the comedian who in recent years suffered significant burns to his face after a gas fire. In November 2023, Leno was working on his 1907 White Steam Car in his garage, when his face caught fire. He previously told Today show host Hoda Kotb that in an attempt to declog his fuel line he told a friend to “blow some air through the line,” which ignited a flame.
“And I said to my friend, I said, ‘Dave, I’m on fire.’ And Dave’s like, ‘All right,’” Leno added. “I said, ‘Dave, I’m on fire.’ And then, ‘Oh, my God.’ Dave, my friend, pulled me out and jumped on top of me and kind of smothered the fire.”
The former executive producer and star of Jay Leno’s Garage underwent a skin grafting procedure to tend to his severe face, chest, and hand burns.
Despite his injuries, he performed at a comedy event just three hours after his fall in Pennsylvania over the weekend. On Monday, Leno took the stage again for Comedy for Koby, a charity event in support of Israeli families.
