Martin Scorsese is enjoying his time on TikTok with his daughter Francesca Scorsese, but that doesn’t mean he loves every video idea.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker, who frequently teams up with his daughter for viral videos, recently told People magazine that he didn’t realize how popular the social media platform was at first nor that he would become a TikTok star.

“I didn’t know about TikTok,” he admitted. “She said, ‘Dad, just do this for a minute.’ I did it, and then next thing I know, it’s all over the world.”

Some of these viral videos feature Francesca educating her father on youth culture and Gen-Z slang terms like “slept on” and “ick.” He’s also hilariously narrated one of her makeup tutorial.

As for wether he’s ever turned down any video pitches, the Killers of the Flower Moon director said, “There were a few. I can’t think of them right now, but [I’ll say,] ‘I think it’s going too far, honey.’ But you know, she’s a good actor and she’s got a great sense of humor. And there’s a good rapport and I play off that.”

The father-daughter dynamic was also showcased earlier this year in a Super Bowl campaign for Squarespace. In the video, the legendary filmmaker director attempts to build a website with his daughter’s help, but acknowledges he’s not an expert of science fiction.

While speaking with Vanity Fair about their Squarespace collaboration at the time, Francesca said she doesn’t “have any regrets” teaching her father new words.

“Sometimes, he will use Gen-Z slang because he’s heard it, and it’s the funniest thing to me,” she added. “I feel like hearing your dad say, ‘Oh yeah, that slaps,’ or, ‘I’m so woke,’ or whatever, it’s just so cringy to me. It just makes me crack up. He is from a different generation, so it’s a little — I wouldn’t say embarrassing to hear him say it, but it’s funny because it feels like he is really trying to stay current with my generation and with me.”
