Swedish original series “Veronika” has been renewed for a second season at SkyShowtime, Variety can confirm.

Starring Alexandra Rapaport (“Honour”) and Tobias Santelmann (“The Arctic Convoy”), the crime drama sees Rappaport return as police officer Veronika Gren. Santelmann plays her husband Tomas.

Season 1 saw Veronika set out to uncolver the murder of two teenage girls while juggling her own complicated family life and secret pill addiction.

The second season will follow the police officer as she continues to struggle with her past as well as mysterious visions, all while impatiently waiting to resume her role in the police force.
“As the series unfolds, she finds herself in the middle of a dark and perplexing murder mystery, rooting back 60 years in time,” reads the logline. :As Veronika is torn between the world of living and the dead, her facade begins to crack. An inevitable chain of events puts everything she’s worked to rebuild at risk.”
Other returning cast include Arvin Kananian, Eddie Eriksson Dominguez and Sarah Rhodin. Academy Award-nominee Mikael Håfström (“Evil”) is set to direct.

“Veronika” is the first local original series to return for a second season across more than 20 SkyShowtime markets. By the end of 2025 the Comcast-owned network is set to have premiered over 30 original series.

“We are very proud to announce our first recommission of a SkyShowtime Original. ‘Veronika’ has proven to be a huge success, captivating so many of our members across all our markets,” said Kai Finke, chief content officer at SkyShowtime. “Once again with Alexandra Rapaport and Tobias Santelmann at the helm, and a superb team of creators behind the scenes, we believe viewers will continue to enjoy this very unique crime story with a supernatural twist that ‘Veronika’ is. Underscoring our commitment to making SkyShowtime a great partner to storytellers from around our footprint, the second season of the show will add to the growing line-up of about 30 SkyShowtime Originals available to our members by the end of 2025.”

Rapaport said: “This show is so dear to me and I’m more than grateful and proud that it has found a large audience and is returning for a second season on SkyShowtime. I can’t wait to go back and explore Veronika’s special universe one more time.’’

Season 2 is created and written by Katja Juras and Anna Ströman. Producers are Calle Jansson and Mathias Gruffman at Bigster while Rapaport is also an executive producer.
