Runners, like any passionate hobbyists, are particular about their gear. That’s why it can be risky to buy an experienced runner a running-related gift — they likely already have a strong idea of the type of equipment they use. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get them something practical they’ll use, premium gear they’ve had their eye on, or maybe even something they haven’t thought of yet.
To make things easier, we consulted Emily Fruge, REI’s senior category merchandising manager to get tips on the best running gear to buy. She noted that since runners are particular about their shoes, “It’s a great idea to check if they already have a favorite brand and model.”
It’s also worth considering the kind of running they do. “Consider their running style and needs. Are they training for a half marathon and road running most often or do they crave time in nature and look to take their runs on local trails?”
