‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ Season 3 First Look Previews Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride’s Long Journey Home

After Sunday night’s season finale, Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier are set to continue on a European journey that will eventually have a next stop in Spain. And a new, post-finale teaser shows a brief glimpse at what’s in store when the The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon stars eventually get there.

The teaser (below) debuted during Sunday night’s finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, which left the recently reunited zombie-fighting travelers in a tunnel heading to London. With production on the already renewed third season now underway in Spain, the big question is: How will Daryl and Carol wind up there?

“I was ready to give up. Thought it was all over,” Daryl (Norman Reedus) tells Carol (Melissa McBride) in the teaser. “You and me both,” she replies, with as much of a smile as she can muster.

The new season is set to premiere in 2025 on AMC and AMC+.

Season three’s location shooting includes the Galicia, Aragón, Catalonia and Valencia regions, each providing a new and unique backdrop for the post-apocalyptic world. The hit AMC show moved from France, where season two filmed.

Here is the logline: “Season three will follow Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier as they continue their journey to somehow return home and to the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.”

When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the events of the finale, showrunner and executive producer David Zabel said the change in location gives the show a chance to reinvent itself, both on the story level and also from a cinematography feel.

“The characters should not settle down. It should be a road show. They have to keep moving [to return home],” he said. “At the end of season two, they’re going somewhere. We don’t know exactly where, and it’s not a direct line to the next place they go. But the idea is to keep the characters struggling and striving to get home and moving.”

As for exploring a new culture, he said, “That’s going to be so exciting for reinventing the show. It felt like all signs pointed toward us continuing to move and get to the next place. In seasons five and six, it could be a different place. They’ll keep moving until they get home!”

Though the Walking Dead spinoff series has only officially been renewed through season three, Zabel says he has a long-term plan. “I’ve talked to Norman about it. There is a very cool plan,” he told THR. “But we don’t even know if we’re making season four yet.” He said the location changes are an opportunity to show the audience what the apocalypse looks like in other parts of the world but added, “at some point, I imagine some things might be determined by what other characters [in the franchise] are doing and where they are.”

Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada and Alexandra Masangkay join as series regulars in season three. Additional cast includes Candela Saitta, Hugo Arbués, Greta Fernández, Gonzalo Bouza, Hada Nieto, Yassmine Othman, Cuco Usín and Stephen Merchant.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season three is executive produced by franchise chief creative officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner David Zabel, Reedus, McBride, Greg Nicotero, Brian Bockrath, Angela Kang, Jason Richman, Dan Percival and Steve Squillante, along with Silvia Aráez and Jesús de la Vega from Ánima Stillking.
