Bill Skarsgård has met his match in the trailer for Locked. The actor, who tends to embody movie monsters, is up against a sadistic Anthony Hopkins in the thriller, which hits theaters on March 21.

In the clip, Skarsgård plays Eddie, a thief on the hunt for cars. When he finds one unlocked and attempts to take it, the phone rings, and Hopkins’ character, William, reveals he plans to punish Eddie for his crimes. “I want you to experience the consequences of your actions,” William says, locking Eddie inside the vehicle and tasing him. Chaos ensues as Eddie tries to escape while William, in turn, introduces him to “a little taste of hell.”

Locked was directed by David Yarovesky and produced by Sam Rami. The film is a remake of the 2019 Argentinian movie 4×4, which was previously remade as the 2022 Brazilian movie A Jaula.

Most recently, Skarsgård played the vampire Count Orlok in Nosferatu. He will reprise his role as Pennywise in the upcoming Max series It: Welcome to Derry, which premieres later this year. Hopkins, who is well known for his own monstrous portrayal of Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs, has been working frequently, including voicing a character in the two-part Netflix film Rebel Moon and forthcoming sci-fi flick Eyes in the Trees.

In 2020, Skarsgård told Rolling Stone that it took him some time to find his identity as a performer. “As I grew older and came into my teenage years, I had a hard time with finding my own identity as an actor, coming from such a big acting family in such a small country as Sweden,” he said. “I was probably around 18 or 19 when I really committed to it as an adult. I was like, ‘Here’s something I love doing, and I’m somewhat capable of it, so let’s go for it.’”
