Zendaya to Receive a Tribute Prize at the Gotham Awards
Zendaya is feeling the love from the Gotham Awards.
The mononymic megastar will receive the Gothams’ Spotlight Tribute for her performance in Challengers.
Zendaya plays Tashi Donaldson, a tennis phenom-turned-coach in a complicated relationship with two male tennis players in Luca Guadagnino’s time-jumping spring hit. She also was a producer on the film.
The Spotlight Tribute recognizes “phenomenal efforts by individuals in film and television who captivated global audiences.”
In announcing the award, Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, cited Zendaya’s wide range of performance achievements. “Zendaya’s magnetic portrayal of Tashi Donaldson in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers exemplifies the creative excellence that The Gotham celebrates,” he said, adding that “her performances in Dune: Part One, Dune: Part Two and Euphoria have made her one of the most captivating actors of her generation.”
The Malcolm & Marie star, who has already won two Emmys and a Golden Globe for her work on the HBO show, is an acting contender for her multiple movies on the awards circuit this season.
Challengers, from Amazon MGM Studios, is also nominated for best feature at the Gothams when the 34th edition of the show gets underway in New York. The awards have announced several other tribute awards including for Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold of Bob Dylan picture A Complete Unknown and for the cast of the prison drama Sing Sing.
The Gotham Awards will take place on Monday, Dec. 2, at Cipriani Wall Street.
